C. Daniel Boling: Listen to Music

Tell Me You Love Me So

(C. Daniel Boling with Meredith Wilder)

I've always been taken with the courting songs and word game songs of Appalachia and the British isles. This song springs from those old roots, updates them a little, and puts in a bit of my long and happy relationship with my beautiful wife Ellen. The perfect couple to sing this song, in my mind, would be Doc Watson and Jean Ritchie about 40 years ago.
TELL ME YOU LOVE ME SO

Tell me you love me so
Love me so, love me so
Tell me you love me so much you could die
I’ll tell you I love you so
Love you so, love you so
Love you so, love you so much I could die

Something old and new
Something you’ve borrowed and something blue
Something in you that you’ve given to someone who’ll
Love you forever
And promise you never
To leave you whatever will be

Tell me you love me so
Love me so, love me so
Tell me you love me so much you could die
I’ll tell you I love you so
Love you so, love you so
Love you so, love you so I’ll tell you why

When our vows were read
I know each word you said
Didn’t come out of your head
They came straight from your heart instead
Love, honor, take the blame for me
The same way you swore me
To take it for you

Tell me you love me so
Love me so, love me so
Tell me you love me so much you could die
I’ll tell you I love you so
Love you so, love you so
Love you so, love you so I’ll tell you why

I don’t need to convince you
You don’t need to drop hints you
Know that I know what we’ve both always known since you
Told me you do
And I said I do too
But like you I still do need to hear

Tell me you love me so
Love me so, love me so
Tell me you love me so much you could die
I’ll tell you I love you so
Love you so, love you so
Love you so, love you so much I could die
